When Vincent Scafuri needed a lifesaving kidney transplant due to advanced polycystic kidney disease (PKD), his wife, Griselda Espinosa, offered to be his kidney donor. 

Inspired by her work and her mother, Stephanie Donelan, a post-liver transplant coordinator at Mayo Clinic in Florida, gave her role as a transplant nurse new meaning by becoming an altruistic living kidney donor.

Nearly 90,000 people in the U.S. are on the waiting list for kidney transplant, according to the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network.
